Our smoke detectors scream whenever one puts a battery into them.
Is there some cheap fix, or is one better off buying new ones?
I'm almost as frightened of smoke detectors as of fire -- and I'm *really*
scared of fire.
Answer:
I found that when I fumble around making intermittent connections
when changing the battery, it screams longer.
So now I first pull the old battery straight back out of its
electrical socket. Then I pop the battery out of its mechanical
holder without making electrical contact again.
I just reverse the process to put the new battery in. First
snap it into the mechanical holder without making electrical
contact. Then quickly push the terminals on the battery.
There is only a split-second squeal when doing it this way.
