Question: Apartment manager just installed a new smoke detector a week ago. Now suddenly it has started making "chirps" every couple of minutes. I replaced the battery with a brand new one and it's still doing it. Any experience with this? Bad detector maybe?
Answer: -While an old battery will cause the smoke detector to "chirp", so will an over- sensitive detector. Decrease the sensitivity since the life of a new battery in a new smoke detector (i.e., one without an expired detector plate) should last for at least 6 months. -0If its like our house, the missus replaced a battery at 4.30 am only to find it was actually the other smoke detector downstairs....
