Question: I went to see Lord of the Rings last night with my cousin. What a great movie it is, I was on the edge of the seat. Then, right in the middle of the picture, the fire alarms go off in the theatre. So we all have to get up and get out, right during the exciting middle of the film. Finally, some ushers came in and told us that it was a false alarm and that we could return to our seats (the film would be rewinded). Unfortunately for me, LOTR was rewinded to a point after where we had been interrupted. Upon discussion with the ushers, some little teensprog had decided it would be oh, so kewl to pull the fire alarm during a movie showing. I also learned that Regal Cinemas lost on the order of thousands of dollars because the policy is to give each and every moviegoer in the building a free movie pass (labeled "Emergency Ticket") My question is, why is pulling a fire alarm considered fun by kids?
Answer: This happened while I was staying at the Disneyland Hotel one night. Interestingly, almost no one evacuated the hotel. I was one of the few outside waiting for the all-clear. Kids do it because it makes them feel powerful, and because odds are there will be no consequences. I feel sorry for people who work at cinema complexes. They must have to put up with all kinds of assholery day-in and day-out.
