Portable electronic CO detectors? I'd like to get a carbon monoxide detector which I can move from room to room. I believe you can get electronic ones now, so I thought you might be able to get one you can move around from room to room. I ask because I've got a boiler and two gas fires in different rooms and I'd like to be able to check them all periodically, without the expense of buying 3.

Does anyone know if such things are available, and can they recommend a good make? A rough idea of costs would be appreciated too, if you know.

Answer: Whilst a periodic check is better than no check at all, but only just IMHO, CO detectors are designed to be a permanent monitoring device. Whilst a quick check around your house with a smoke detector might reassure you that there isn't a fire in progress, it's no substitute for a number of appropriately placed, permanent detectors around one's home. The same applies for CO detectors. These thing are pretty sensitive and it may be possible to monitor the whole house from one suitable place.
