Question: Does anyone know of a device that can be used to test the sesitivity of "all" smoke detectors? I have heard of a "cover/chamber" that can be placed over a smoke detector. Then a tech can perform a test....and watch how much smoke is needed to trip the detector. If anyone is aware of this device, please advise where more information can be found.
Answer: -Why would you need a unit like that? Seems to me the most (all?) smokes have proper procedures for testing them. I think that's included in the rating UL gives it (not totally sure on that). What ever way the factory has installed into the smoke for testing it is about 2% to 5% smoke, I seem to remember. -Many smokes don't even need smoke for a test, many have a test switch or reed switch for testing. Besides these test switches standard smoke-in-a-can should work on most any detector.
