Question: Can anyone tell me what a person needs to look for in hotels and transportation if a person is hearing impaired? Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Just how does one manage when hearing impaired? Are there any web sites I could go to to get info? I am in the travel business and have been asked to speak to this subject to a hearing impaired group
Answer: With the ADA, most hotels have to provide accomodations for the hearing impaired. Some hotels have a hearing impaired kit to use in the hotel room which include a TTY, telephone signaler, telephone amplifier, door knock signaler, telecaption decoder, wake-up system and visual/audio smoke detector. There are also systems for tour groups, where the tour guide wears a microphone and the hearing impaired people use FM receivers.
