Question:
fire safety After watching the news about the fire in RI... we were surprised to find at a nearby resturant, the emergancy doors.. blocked by broom and dustpan.... sigh

Answer: -consider if the two clubs in the last week had the disasters switched... the one in chicago had 1500 people in it, and almost all the exits either blocked or locked. The fire codes need to change, regardless of how old a building is, they need smarter laws.

-We have laws and codes and they are smart. We need smarter people to obey those laws. Now, if you are talking stiffer penalties for blocking and locking exits, then those ought to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and those businesses should have a "boot" to keep people from entering until they are up to code.

-I agree that the people ignored the existing laws in chicago, however i was refering to the fact that in the RI club, because it was such an old building it precluded the laws that required it has a fire sprinkler system. The people in RI didnt ignore any laws, they had proper fire escapes and everything was to code, they had just passed their inspection in december. the fire dept representative him self said if there was a sprinkler system there, this wouldnt have happened. im my opinion thats not a smart law. loops holes like that just cost 96 lives. If they ever find the owner of the chicago club, he likely will get jail time, last i heard he fled the state.
