Question: Is anyone in the northern Illinois area aware of a fire inspector training program available for a couple of new firefighters I have on my dept? The OSFM FPO I course is not designed for recruit firefighters, and I'm looking for something to start with the basics, and get them up to speed.
Answer: Chief Johnson and other FIRE-L readers: Missouri has a Certified Fire Inspector training program provided by the Missouri Division of Fire Safety (State Fire Marshal's Office). MoDFS has a WWW site at: http://www.dps.state.mo.us/dps/msfs/fs.htm or you can call them at 1-800-877-5688. You will probably need to make telephone contact to learn locations of the inspector courses. The class is week long course which is given throughout Missouri. If you are interested in the program and don't mind it being in a neighboring state, you might find that it meets your needs at a very affordable price. Other fire related courses are available through the Missouri Fire Rescue Training Institute. Their WWW page is http://www.missouri.edu/~frtiwww/
