Question: Does anybody have any pro's or con's on the "Learn Not To Burn" program for fire safety educators. Please respond
Answer: Last year, I was selected by the NFPA as 1994 Learn Not To Burn Champion. I have to admit that before I got involved in depth with the program, i was like every other firefighter,...I knew that the LNTB program exsisted but I really didn't know much about it. Here it is a year later, I attended training in Boston for LNTB implimentation, I implimented 11 classrooms last year, and saw a 18 % knowledge gain in fire safety awareness in over 190 kids K to Grade three. The program was a resounding sucess, Learn not to burn teaches fire safety in a way that the fire service could never have been able to. It is a comprehensive program that teaches fire safety on a continuous basis to children in a positive way. It is not a coloring book or a trinkit but it is real behaviour modification to children and their families and communnities. I can not overemphasize our fire dept's approval of LNTB as a way to teach fire safety in the comming decades. try it and see for yourselves.
