Question: The Fire Prevention Unit of the University of Cincinnati will be putting together a booth and some hand out material one day during fire prevention week. We are looking for some program ideas and topics out there which might keep, and hold the interest of college students, while not taking up allot of there time ? If any other college or university has any ideas or plans for a neat program, would you mind sharing an idea ?
Answer: I work in the Austin Fire Dept(Tx), assigned to a truck just north of the University of Texas campus. My station and UT Austin's 'Safety Office' is putting together a booth for Fire Prevention week. We are going to have the Engine company from my station, its crew and one or two representatives from UT Safety. We will locate on our West mall which is where most of the action is on campus(we have approximately 50,000 students). We will be handing out pamphlets on a wide range of topics. Our city-wide emphasis is on cooking fires. We will also have pamphlets available concerning EDITH(exit drills in the home), fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and general household safety. If you'd like more information please contact me at St 3 at 512-478-2001. From the AFD St3 number I can give you the number of the UT Austin Safety Office and AFD's Public Education office..I don't have them memorized and I am at home currently. I will be at work Monday the 16th at 1130 hrs to about 1130 hrs
