Question:
I am currently searching for info involving Fire Fighter Accountability,Safety, Rapid Intervention, Maday Procedures, ETC. My department is in the process of trying to develop an aggressive safetypolicy.(simply put, the only way we would know who is missing now, would be when there wife called the next morninglooking for them.) We aren't quite that bad, but any info that anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Also looking for waysthat departments use there communications division to assist with accountability and these other procedures.

Answer: We use an accountability system which was developed and is now marketed by Seattle Fire. It is known as the Passport System. Very easy to use and inexpensive. All personnel are issued name tags with velcro backing. When they come on duty, they place one name tag on a status board which is controlled by the incident commander. A backup set of names are placed on passports which are stored in the engine, truck or ladder itself. If an evacuation is called by the IC he can do a roll call using the passports on his status board and look for those who are not accounted for. Contact Seattle Fire, they have a webpage, for detatiled info on their system. It has been my experience that they are a department which is interested in sharing info. .
