Question: Fire extinguisher install I got an extinguisher a while ago and I need to install it in my 75 CJ5. Where is a good logical location to mount it?
Answer: -Mine sits on the tool box between the seats: http://www.billhughes.com/extingui.jpg where I've had to fire it from the driver's seat many times. Picture yourself upside-down, blinded by gasoline, where do you want to be able to find it? -I keep a small one bolted to each side of the front seats on the frame member bewteen the doors in my cherokee. but they are mostly for small stuff and looks and feel good safetly they really are quite useless. I know I have had to use them. in the back I keep a massive normal sized extinguisher that can actually DO something should a serious fire develop. Stopped to help someone with a burning truck on the highway once FIVE of us had those little wee extinguishers and they did nothing. had even one of us had a full size extinguisher we could have maybe saved her truck and the antiques she was hauling. instead we emptied the cargo hold as best we could before the smoke/flames chased us off. I also keep a small one bolted under the hood in the engine compartment. Have never had a fire IN my truck but it would suck if I did and was not prepared.
