Question: maintenance of fire extinguisherTried searching for this information, but got ??? results, and nothing on fire extinguishers. I have a couple ten year old dry chemical type extinguishers (ABC). Their gauges are in the green (could be stuck - I have no way to test them). They have not been inspected since I bought them. I remember at work the extinguishers were checked once a year, but I don't know if the check involved anything more than looking at the gauge. Any thoughts on what should be done with these? So far I haven't needed one, but I'd really be disappointed if I did and it was dead
Answer: The extinguisher company discharges them, pressure tests them, installs new chemicals and repressurizes. I think the pressure test is every five years but I am not sure. The tank is stamped after pressure testing. Guages can get stuck falsley indicating pressure.
