Question:
They are the hand held pump type. What do I fill them with. One the front it says Use Fire Extinguisher Liquid, not water. What is fire extinguisher liquid and where could I buy it. Are there any substitutes. I am in the UK by the way.

Answer: How old are these extinguishers : if they are the very old brass pump type, they were filled with carbon tetrachloride, which is now known to be *extremely* hazardous and they should not be used and any residual contents disposed of safely by competent people. I am no expert, but know of no other commonly used non-pressurised extinguishers which put out a liquid (as opposed to a gas produced from a liquid gas under pressure) other than water.
