Need fire extinguisher advice We live in a single level ranch with a full basement (95% finished) and an attached garage. I'd like to put in some portable fire extinguishers, probably three; one in the kitchen, one in the basement, and one in the garage. I understand that ABC-type extinguishers are available, suitable for ordinary combustibles, gasoline and other combustible liquids, and electric fires. I guess that's what would be best for us. I'd appreciate any comments, suggestions, or caveats about home fire extinguishers. What sizes are best? Any special thoughts about locations in the areas mentioned above? Any brand preferences?

Answer: When my wife and I got married her father gave us 3 nice fire exstinguishers. The problem with them is that they were too large for my wife to use unless she could use it with the tank siting on the floor. We did not get rid of the big ones but we did get a smaller one to suppliment it. I don't think there is much difference in brand names as the quaility seems to be regulated pretty well.
