Question: What about AFFF (whatever that is) plus a fire blanket for the kitchen. I've got a CO2 extinguisher (Ex NHS released by the fire officer before anyone says anything) and a fire blanket.
Answer: CO2 extinguisher has one hell of a blast -- not a goot idea unless everything's fixed down or heavy. Use it on a burning waste bin, and you'll have an empty waste bin and room full of burning paper. Also, it gets damn cold in a few seconds -- keep your hands off the horn and as far as possible, the cylinder too. For home and car use, dry powder is generally regarded as a good choice, except for a kitchen where fire blanket is best. However, as others have said, don't bother to try fighting a fire unless you have been trained to do so, or your life depends on it in order to escape. BTW, the dust from dry powder extinguishers destroys printed circuit boards in electronic equipment. In the event that you let one off accidently near any such equipment, you will have to get it well cleaned up. You won't find dry powder extinguishers near expensive commercial computer installations for this reason.
