Question: I am looking to purchase an old fire alarm pull-box but have no idea where I can aquire one. Unfortunatley my f.d. doesn't have any around and if they did they would have been scarfed up already. If anyone knows where to get one (preferably in working condition) can you please let me know.
Answer: Several thoughts come to mind. You stated "old fire alarm pull-box" so I presume a brand new box is out of the question. The Gamewell Company still manufactures these boxes, which are still in service in a number of cities. Check out the Fire Alarm Telegraph Systems page at http://www.wildstar.net/~plaws/fire/box.shtml for more information. Another place to look is at firematic flea markets, where they can usually be found. Check your area to see if any of these events occur there. There is a rather large "Spring Thaw" flea market in Allentown PA on April 9, 2000 at the fairgrounds. You can do a web search for fire collectors or fire memorabilia, where you may find some personal web sites where you may be able to purchase one. One that I am aware of is at http://hometown.aol.com/Dcaptain/index.html And, as always, almost anything can be found on ebay, the huge internet auction site. I've seen a number of them appear for auction there, in various conditions. Expect to pay about $200 (or more) for one of these boxes, in a less than perfect condition. They're out there, but you may have to look a bit to find them. I am not endorsing any of these places, but am merely providing the info for your use.
