1. Do you have a smoke-alarm (or similar) at home? How many? Where? If not, Why? 5. How many minutes away is the nearest fire station?

Question:
Because I'm a voluntary fire-fighter and my brigade's theme this year is preventing fires, I thought it could be interesting to ask you a few questions in order to get some information about the safety situation in other countries. Please answer these questions as seriously as you feel like... ;) 1. Do you have a smoke-alarm (or similar) at home? How many? Where? If not, Why? 2. How many of the rooms have at least two exits? Does your bedroom belong to these rooms? 3. Do you know your name, your address and your phone number so that you can tell the dispatcher when you call for help? If not, Why? 4. Do you know where to call for help? 5. How many minutes away is the nearest fire station? 6. Do you have any fire extinguishing equipment at home? Do you know how to use it? 7. Do you have any first-aid equipment at home? Do you know how to use it? 8. Do you keep your TV on standby during the nights, or do you shut it off? 9. Do you wear a seat-belt while driving? If not, Why? 10. Does the passenger behind you also wear a seat-belt? If not, Why?

Answer: Q: 1. Do you have a smoke-alarm (or similar) at home? How many? Where? If not, Why? A: No, none, nowhere, because I hate alarm bells. Q: 2. How many of the rooms have at least two exits? Does your bedroom belong to these rooms?

A:(you mean exit to outdoors, including safely jumpable windows?) None, no. Q: 3. Do you know your name, your address and your phone number so that you can tell the dispatcher when you call for help? If not, Why?

A: No, but my wife keeps notes in her diary. In case of real emergency (like, if we're out of peanut butter or something), I can always ask her.

Q: 5. How many minutes away is the nearest fire station?

A: I don't care. I have no plans whatsoever to visit one. Q: 6. Do you have any fire extinguishing equipment at home? Do you know how to use it?

A: Sure - the shower! Use it every day. Q: 7. Do you have any first-aid equipment at home? Do you know how to use it?

A: I have a daughter of 5! We run a permanent ER service here... Q: 8. Do you keep your TV on standby during the nights, or do you shut it off?

A: Neither, I like to fall asleep in front of the burning christmas tree. Q: 9. Do you wear a seat-belt while driving? If not, Why?

A: What has this got to do with fire prevention? You pervert! Q: 10. Does the passenger behind you also wear a seat-belt? If not, Why?

A: Now listen here, good man. Firstly, I don't even own a car. Secondly, if I did, I would get a chauffeur to drive me around, so there would be no "passenger behind me" (what a vulgar idea!) Finally, if (in an emergency) I had to drive the car myself, and IF I'd allow a passenger in the back, how should I know whether he's wearing a seat-belt? Do I look like I have eyes in my neck? And if my passenger happened to wear one, that would be all his own business, thank you very much sir.
