Whyd I take occupational safety & go to college when I couldve just gone to welding school?

Question:
Im having far more success with contracting a couple welders than I am with getting fire safety gigs offshore. You know, the good ole boy network Sad but Id have a lot of opportunities to go abroad like Africa & Argentina etc for construction & offshore projects. Maybe Ill take a six month job sometime. Welding can be lucrative though charging $25 an hour & paying $15. Its good spare change & welders are always in demand . Ill give it another month or two before I head back offshore . With a regular 7/7 schedule I can deal with the welders while at home. Whyd I take occupational safety & go to college when I couldve just gone to welding school?

Answer: Fire safety? I've seen fire safety jobs that pay beaucoup money... in the Dallas area. They're city employee jobs, but some pay between 5 and 9 grand a month. Personally, I'm kicking myself right now for not having jumped right into the tech market when all you had to do was learn how to turn a computer on. A BS in computer science is virtually worthless if you don't have plenty of experience with enterprise level software tools. Only problem is that it's impossible to get experience with those tools unless you already have experience or good connections nowadays. I put myself through college by working a full time night shift at a grocery store and quit to pursue a job in the best available area possible that was reasonably close to home. Doh! I've decided that I'm going to take technical classes at night to get a few certifications, and if I'm not in a decent job by August, I'm going to get a PhD in either Finance or Engineering. Bad thing is that I just changed residencies from LA to TX, so I have to wait a year before I can claim residence in either state and get in-state tuition. I got a 93 out of 99 on the Louisiana Civil Service Professional Entry Exam ... but there's a hiring freeze in the state. I certainly hope the Saints do better in FA and the next season than I'm doing right now.
