Question: I need to know what a chrome fire extinguisher is used for. ie what type of fire it's to be used on & what is actually in the extinguisher.
Answer: -Isn't there a label attached to say what type it is? The only chrome-plated ones I recall seeing are those around the stairways at work, and they are water-based ones, not really very suitable for anything indoors, there being electrical services all over the place - light switches, socket outlets, and so on. I believe the current regulations say that for new installations, the bodies of ALL extinguishers have to be red, with suitable labelling. -Fire extinguishers used to be colour coded to denote their type, but now they are all colour coded red. If your chrome one doesn't say what type it is, it's unlikely to conform to any regulatory requirements. If you describe it in more detail (shape, size, outlet nossle, firing mechanism, pressure guage or not, etc), someone might be able to identify it.
